BUSHMEN PAINTINGS
can be found at Schaapplaats, Kiara Lodge and Golden Gate National Park, alternatively you could go on a safari with Gnu Safari's (082 774 8814) they are very knowledgeable in the first inhabitants of the area. The Cat People, The Cannibals and the Voortrekkers.
Something very unique to this area are DINOSAUR FOOTPRINTS. It is extremely rare to see these reminders that the earth and this area in particular teamed with Dinosaurs.

HIKING is therapy in itself especially at Golden Gate (16.9km from Clarens) Get a day pass and explore the many footpaths that lead up into spectacular scenery. Clarens has a trail that starts next to Aspen Guesthouse, just over the little bridge that leads to the Swartland (black soil) area of Clarens. If you follow this road 20m further towards the TENNIS COURTS you will see a grove of trees and grass perfect for a country PICNIC.

At the dam (back of Clarens). This is also where the trail ends or starts, so if you have gone the other way round from Aspen Guesthouse you can cool off with a swim in the dam at the end of your hike.

The Bibliophile is the only Clarens Attraction noted in the Lonely Planet guide book.
The bookstore is located in the old Clarens Bus Station, next to Clementines restaurant. From the Clarens Square look West towards the Kloof side of town. Bibliophile is on the 1st dirt road parallel to the Clarens Square.

Clarens has become a popular place for weekenders to enjoy a relaxing evening followed by a late night of dancing, live music, singing and all round fun. What could go wrong?.... Nothing really......This is Clarens, you can walk back to your accommodation if you have to.
There are bars in most of the Clarens restaurants, for sundowners or a relaxed evening out, however the entertainment doesn't always last that long.
If you are in the mood for a vibrant party night in Clarens your best bet would be The Zula Sunset Deck or Friends Restaurant and Pub.

They both have flat screens for watching rugby and often have live music at night especially on the weekends and sometimes on Wednesdays.

A weekend in Clarens
The drive from Johannesburg to Clarens takes roughly 3 hours, N3 turn-off onto R26 which takes you all the way to Bethlehem where you join the N5 for a short bit and then turn off to Clarens along the R711.
Friday: Cold and refreshing cider at the Clarens Brewery, or the Red or the Blonde or simply all of the above. Happy hour at The Highlander, next door, starts at 17:30 (this is a local tradition) till 18:30. Fun, laughter and simply a great way to start the weekend.
Saturday: Clarens has many Spa's where you can get a relaxing massage. B-You Day Spa will take care of you, call Jorene on 082 563 2407 to make an appointment. B-You Day Spa is on the village square. "Click" the link to see their Spa Menu.
Or, if on a motorbike, head for Golden Gate. Pure therapy! The mountain-scape and winding road says: "welcome to bikers heaven."

TIP: If you are carnivorous stop at Vleismeesters in Bethlehem. They always have THE BEST meat at a good price. (stock up on the way home too).
Sunday: Spend the day visiting Art Galleries, stopping for coffee (see: Cafe page). Feeling like something different? I'd go on a horse ride at Bokpoort, or try one of many adrenalin activities at Clarens Xtreme.
