The word Art describes many forms, from traditional Cave Paintings to modern day sculptures. Even when people lock themselves in a glass box it is considered Art.
Clarens Art Galleries have a wide range of works from decorative paintings to nudes... mostly the kind of art that you can buy to take home with you.
Another form of art is communicated from individual to individual. A sense of something beautiful, a hint of inspiration! It can be as energizing as a hand picked painting or shoot off into the limitless realm of untouchables. I like to think that when a person is absorbed in their passion, and mastered their skill - the art flows through them and into their form.
There are a few individuals in Clarens who have a presence that feels like art. I don't know what attracts them to this town: The surrounding mountains, the views stretching to Lesotho, that Clarens is not too small and not too big or maybe because there is a sense of possibility when you first arrive. A sense that Art is a medium of free expression, and this makes Clarens different.
Art is created, it takes effort and heaps of energy! The product is the result of hours of focus and perhaps years to hone the skill that translates the metaphorical concept of the artist to the form they have created.
Whilst interviewing a few of the local Clarens Artists, we came across this mission statement by Tina De Beer at the Tina De Beer Art Gallery.
"My inspiration is for a single painting, to celebrate it once off, at its best to keep my work fresh and vibrant.
I certainly won't get rich this way but I do get to stay in love with my art, about which I am passionate." - Tina
