Property
It wasnt too long ago when property in Clarens was at a level in the range of most other dorpe in the Eastern Free State. Prices now reflect a suburb in Johannesburg or Capetown.
There are many major and minor contributing factors. Here are some of the key players:
Location: Three and a half hours from Johannesburg, easily driven on a Friday afternoon. Or, if one has relocated - the reverse is also true. You can pop up to Joburg, every now and then for your metropolitan fix. So people with money can afford a second home out in the country for weekend breaks or as an investment.
Clarens is beautiful: There is no doubt about it. Surrounded by mountains which not going anywhere, means your investment in the beauty of the surroundings is solid. This is similar to a coastal property investment; the ocean isnt going anywhere.
Boutique: Clarens has become fashionable. Oh, where are you off to this weekend? We are going to Clarens. This is a fashionable thing to say.
And lastly: Property Agents: Talk to as many locals as you can and find out who they would recommend. We recommend:

Come and stay in Clarens a few times and get a wider perspective, or rent until your ideal property becomes available.
Some property locations can be noisy on weekends and that would be a huge disappointment if your idea of a house in the country were to be a tranquil escape from the city life.
If you plan on relocating to Clarens and starting a business of your own, speak to Business Consulting service at Clarens MAG first. In a nutshell: Clarens can be like a relationship. Infatuation then discovery then assessing what remains and only later Objectivity. We can help you put objectivity first.
